Arcanum is the alias of Kate Murdoch, a Melbourne writer and artist. Kate exhibited widely as a painter before turning her hand to writing. In between writing historical fiction, she enjoys writing short stories and flash fiction.

Kate studied Professional Writing and Editing at Swinburne University, and has completed short courses in creative writing at RMIT.

Her debut novel Stone Circle will be published by Fireship Press in 2017.

She has also written The Orange Grove, a novel about the passions and intrigues of court mistresses in eighteenth-century France.

Her flash fiction story ‘Justice is Served’ was published in Flash Fiction Magazine in September 2015.

Her short story ‘The Manifestations of Janek Gorski’ was published in Eunoia Review in October 2015.

Her flash fiction story ‘The Tree and the Sky’ was published in The Flash Fiction Press in November 2015.

Her flash fiction story ‘Lucky Day’ was published in Flash Fiction Magazine in February 2016.

Her flash fiction story ‘Neonatal’ was published in Spelk Fiction in April 2016.

Her stories ‘Reptilian’ and ‘Howard’s Mission’ were included in ‘Paws and Claws’ anthology by Cake & Quill Collective. Released in April 2017.

She is represented by Sarah McKenzie at Hindsight Literary Agency.
